Well, the university does anyway - I was just in Cambridge today. Aruba Networks has been selected to supply the University of Cambridge with hot spot and wireless LAN facilities. The University plans to deploy voice on the wireless LAN too, using Aruba’s QoS features. Support services are being provided to the University by Vanix, together with the Network Division of the University’s Computing Service Department, which acts as a service provider to the colleges and departments across the university.
Academic environments provide a grueling test of WLAN infrastructure, and not just because the students are fighting to keep their Facebook profiles up to date. The environment is high density and very distributed, and provides good insight into what future enterprise WLAN deployments might look like.
